Welcome to South Akron
South Akron is an inner-core neighborhood on Akron’s south side. Akron was originally laid out in 1825 and in 1841 became the seat of Summit County. In terms of housing stock, the neighborhood is one of the oldest in the city. South Akron grew rapidly in the 1910s, attracting many immigrants from central and eastern Europe that had moved to Akron to work in the rubber and tire factories. Originally, the community was located slightly south of its present location, in modern-day South Akron.
